Because the crusts are usually more conservative and there is less grease and fat = less carbs and calories

I have a local pizza place that has a great whole wheat crust pizza. It is excellent, without the weighed down, bloating, what did I just eat feeling after devouring other pizza. Still can't help but wash it down with a beer or two though :drink:
